Know your options before investing in health insurance

When international students apply to universities in the USA, they get a checklist of all documents that they have to arrange and formalities they need to complete before commencing classes. One of those mandatory requirements, in most universities, is buying some minimum health coverage through an international students medical insurance.
When the university makes it mandatory, you usually have an option to buy the policy straight from a company tied up with the university. Because it is a group policy for all students, the premium might be considerably lower. And, it is a lot simpler to buy it, and more often than not, the student is enrolled in such a scheme by default.
Such policies satisfy the minimum requirements of the university, and often students do not look beyond them. But, for those who do look around, there are so many other options available. Some of the policies available outside offer better value for money, while there are others that offer more protection for a slightly higher premium amount.
Internet has lowered the information access barrier, so you can compare the features, benefits, and costs of many policies sitting in the comfort of your house. Spend some time, know your options and make an informed decision on your international students insurance policy. After all, it is supposed to cover you throughout your stay in the USA.
